Happy Birthday Saela Catherine!!!!!!

Our Saela is officially one year old - we had a wonderful time in MN and have many more pictures to share. I have a lot to learn about editing, saving, uploading etc. etc. etc. Saela was plus/minus on the cake and ice cream - a little odd - but I'm sure she'll come around ;)!

364 days and counting...

As Saela's birthday draws near - I find myself thinking how can my baby girl be ONE YEAR OLD already? I wonder if my mom is thinking how can her (1st) baby girl be 32 or if my baby sister is thinking how can her baby girl be 3 weeks old already?!? Perhaps this is how I will feel as each subsequent year passes in the blink of an eye? In 48 hours, my sweet baby girl will have lived on this earth for 366 days (she got an extra day due to the leap in Feb '08)...

...at times I remember her 1st 2 weeks of life in the RNICU in vivid detail and at other times the whole experience still seems blurred/surreal - as if it was all just a bad dream. I remember wondering if she would bond to us when we couldn't even hold her hand. At one point, I wondered if she would even make it through the night. Thankfully, God saw all of us through this experience with the love and prayers of so many and we feel so fortunate that he has chosen us to be Saela's parents.

"They grow up so fast." No lie. Seriously - one minute they are looking at you like you an alien from another planet and the next they are smiling. You look back and some milestones are clearly documented - but some are a blur - like when did the cry that sounds so much like a newborn disappear and become the cry of a little girl? Life, I suppose, will only go faster and faster as each year goes on - so drink in every moment and store those memories in the vastness of your brain and hope time doesn't steal them away.

My fabulous husband purchased me a new camera for my birthday - so I anticipate pictures galore from Saela's one year birthday festivities. We will be traveling to MN for her second visit and our first family visit to my home. I am VERY excited - can you tell? We will celebrate with family and friends on her actual birthday. If she's anything like me - I'm sure she'll love her first tastes of cake and ice cream :)!

Saela Swings

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about this...

...well maybe swinging could be fun...

...yes, yes...

I love the swings!

Saela's First Taste of...

LEMONS!!!

Saela decided she would rather people watch than dine with her crazy parents.

Look - No Handles

Saela is learning to drink out of her sippy cup with no handles - I am fairly certain that more water ends up on her than in her. She has also demonstrated the ability to drink out of a straw - our baby is getting to be a big girl!

Who Needs Fancy Schmancy Toys When...

...you have a Box of Socks?

Hmmm...what should I do with these socks?

I'll put them in the box.

No, I'll take them out of the box and...

...eat the socks.

Last week Saela played with this box of plain white socks for 43 minutes! Who knew socks and a box could be so entertaining?
